AT&T U-verse heating things up in San Francisco market

AT&T (NYSE: T) claims that its U-verse service now passes more than a million living units in San Francisco, and it's breathing down the neck of incumbent cable operator Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA).

U-verse-by-the-bay has come a long way since its 2006 launch to today's offering of 160 HD channels. In response, Comcast has continued to move away from its TV claims and towards its broadband, citing speeds up to 105 Mbps down and 10 Mbps compared to AT&T's peak of 24 Mbps downstream.

So the fight is being waged on uneven ground, to an extent, with AT&T's vice president and general manager for Northern California/Reno claiming that "we'll continue to make -verse TV even better for customers with regular upgrades and new cool applications that enhance your TV experience."
