Aussie utility scores touchdown with services bundle

Bundling services takes on new meaning--and heft--when it happens in Australia. While U.S. cable companies tout triple plays of voice, video and data services, and telcos throw in wireless as part of a home run bundle, Australian utility ActewAGL has scored a touchdown with seven services, including electricity and natural gas along with telephony, "green energy," cable, cell phone and Internet.

Monthly bills break down by service--imagine the price shock if they didn't--and about a quarter of the utility's 135,000 customers are signed up for some level of bundling. "It's a very unique model," said Kylie Van Steenbeek, ActewAGL's marketing manager.
