Colorado's loss--to some extent at least--is New Jersey's gain as Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) will shift some of its network programming operations from its Media Center in Centennial, Colo. to its new NBC-enriched operations in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.
According to the Denver Post, the move will cost "dozens of workers" their jobs over the next 12 to 18 months. They will have the option to apply for another job within Comcast or, if not, receive "a severance package as well as assistance in finding a new position," a Comcast spokeswoman told the newspaper.
The deal is directly related to the NBCUniversal acquisition since most NBCU channels originate in Englewood Cliffs while Comcast channels like Sprout, Versus and regional sports networks start in Colorado. "This move will enable the company to standardize technology procedures and more easily facilitate content sharing across networks," the spokeswoman noted.
