Dish serves up Q2 profit on 5.7% revenue growth, sub losses slow to 44K

Dish Network (NASDAQ: DISH) reported a second-quarter profit of $216.3 million, or 46 cents a share, vs. a year-ago loss of $11.1 million, driven by a 5.7 percent spike in revenue to $3.69 billion.

The revenue performance matched analysts' consensus projections, but analysts had higher earnings-per-share hopes of around 51 cents.

The Englewood, Colo., satellite operator saw slowing video subscriber losses in the second quarter, dropping only video 44,000 customers compared to the 78,000 lost in Q2 2013. Dish also added 36,000 broadband subscribers during the period vs. 61,000 in Q2 2013.

The company's conference call with investors is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET Wednesday.
