Fusion prepares for Oct. 28 launch

Fusion, the joint venture between Univision and Disney's ABC, is gearing to make its debut Oct. 28. The company recently opened its new 150,000-square-foot headquarters in Doral, Fla., and is hiring hundreds of staffers.

Fusion, which will target U.S. Hispanics with English-language programming, was originally slotted to launch in June but is now expected to debut in 20 million homes on Oct. 28 with plans to expand to 60 million homes.

The network announced carriage deals in February with Cox Communications, Cablevision (NYSE: CVC), Charter Communications (Nasdaq: CHTR), AT&T and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG). In June, it inked a distribution deal with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, which includes small telcos and rural utility companies.

According to the Miami Herald, Fusion tapped Mexican-born Leon Krauze to host a pop-culture show in English and Alicia Menendez to translate her popular shows on Sirius and HuffPost Live.
