Genachowski: Baker followed the rules in move to Comcast

FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker followed the rules--and adhered to applicable laws--when she accepted a job as a top Washington lobbyist for Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski says.

Democrat Genachowski officially praised Republican Baker's work on the Commission in an official statement. Later, in a meeting with reporters, he reiterated that support and said that Baker had consulted with the Commission's general counsel to make certain she followed the rules in making the move to the nation's biggest MSO.

Baker's move from regulator to lobbyist has been questioned by some groups--most notably telecom consumer rights group Free Press--because she voted in favor of Comcast acquiring NBCU. Genachowski, though, said he is not concerned about the potential impropriety of the move because Baker worked within the legal framework.
