Rovi set to expand relationships with mid-sized cable operators

Rovi Corp. president and CEO Thomas Carson told investors Thursday during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call that it is in the process of expanding its relationship with several mid-tier cable operators.

A pending announcement with Mediacom will include Rovi's integrated search, xD applications for iOS and Android devices, DTA guides and analytics products.

"This product agreement is a great example of how Rovi services, from IP to products, work together to improve a service provider's operation and improve the subscriber experience," Carson told investors, according to a transcript published by Seeking Alpha.

"We also recently expanded our relationship with Suddenlink, the nation's seventh largest cable television provider, to deploy high-definition DTA guides," Carson added.

For the quarter, Rovi posed a Q4 loss of $5.9 million, with revenue declining by 12 percent to $134.2 million. The company attributed the latter decline to an unfavorable comparison to a 2013 Q4 that saw Rovi recoup a variety of deal payments.

The company also said it has completed integration of Fan TV, which it acquired late last year for $12 million.

Fan TV makes an IP-based set-top and a buttonless remote that is sold through Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC).

"The Fan TV system has garnered significant customer interest and the team is focused on acquiring additional TV accounts including select international opportunities," Carson said.
