SCTE tabs Rolls to oversee Cable Tec Expo

For a brief moment the gears were grinding as the SCTE prepared itself for fall's Cable Tec Expo in New Orleans. Things are running smoothly again, however, as Jay Rolls, senior VP-technology for Cox Communications has been named program committee chairman for the October 20-22 event. Scott Hatfield, Cox's CTO, had held the position but his resignation from the MSO last month left a void.

Mark Dzuban, SCTE"Hatfield was a great ally of ours. We spent a lot of private time talking about how to help and work together," SCTE president-CEO Mark Dzuban told FierceCable. Cox, he said, "stepped right in and said, ‘We understand the difficulty we may have with the situation. They just stepped up very responsibly and jumped right in to close the gap."

Cable Tec Expo is the organization's premier annual event and part of a new spring/fall focus that the cable industry is promoting. Dzuban, who will have more to say in a Q&A next week in FierceCable, is working to revitalize and refocus the event.

"I'm trying to dispel the whole notion that it's just a social event; it is not," he said. "It's where the problem solvers and the folks with the problems meet and the applied scientists put together the options that fit the portfolio."
