WeatherNation TV cuts a deal with NCTC

It's been said that everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. Well, that's not true for the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC)--the consortium representing cable's smaller operators--which has cut a deal with WeatherNation TV beginning in the second quarter of 2011.

Weather is one of the more popular segments of news programming because it is unpredictable and changes daily. While the weather itself doesn't change from one report to another, the way it's reported does, and NCTC members "asked for options in their choice of weather networks," said Frank Hughes, senior vice president of programming for NCTC in a news release.

WeatherNation TV is an all-weather channel that, at least according to the news release it issued, appears to be cashing in on Americans' increasing fear and fascination with severe weather.

"The U.S. has more severe weather activity than any nation on earth and the occurrence of these severe weather events is on the rise," said Michael Norton, WeatherNation TV's vice president.
