Netflix and Sony announce partnership

Netflix has forged a partnership to deliver streaming video content directly to Sony HDTVs, another move that increases the reach of Netflix's streaming content service, according to The Business Insider.

Internet-capable Bravia high definition TVs and older TVs with a $200 Internet video linking module will be able to access Netflix content through the Netflix-Sony partnership. However, the partnership does not include Sony's video gaming system, the Playstation 3, so Microsoft's Xbox 360 remains Netflix's sole video game console partner.

As competitors such as Amazon make similar investments and partnerships to deliver video content to Internet-connected devices, such deals are vital for Netflix to keep share in the emerging market, The Business Insider said.
