Olympusat Telecom heads into cloud with KIT digital, Akamai

Independent Hispanic, specialty and faith and family television networks provider Olympusat Telecom has partnered with KIT digital, a video management and service vendor, and cloud platform provider Akamai Technologies in an arrangement aimed to expand the breadth of Olympusat's content offerings across a growing number of new media platforms.

The combined effort will leverage a customized cloud-based video management solution to "enhance the streaming video experience" for Olympusat's end users while also providing content management features to meet the increasing needs of a growing base of online video users, the companies said in a news release.

Under the terms of the agreement, Olympusat Telecom will be able to deliver "robust video experiences to the high-performing edges of the cloud while seamlessly expanding their content to new multi-screen platforms and devices," the companies said in a news release.

"Olympusat Telecom is positioned perfectly to provide their unique service mix to the media and entertainment space and other video-centric enterprises who are in need of a comprehensive solution for their online and broadcast media needs," said Laura Kaatz, managing director of global commercial operations for KIT digital.

As part of the agreement, Olympusat Telecom will be able to offer four new core services, including a content delivery network based on Akamai technology to push streaming video content to the edges of the network of customers using KIT's interface; enhanced storage capabilities for customers via KIT's vault offering; video transcoding; and a digital media player so customers can "easily publish online video, mobile video and social video in real-time," the three companies said.

The partners' technology "meets the broadcast-grade level video quality our customers need for their online applications coupled with the social media versatility and rich media offerings that allows them to grow their brand," said Olympusat Telecom President-CEO Tom Mohler.

Olympusat Telecom is a subsidiary of Olympusat Holdings, which owns, operates and distributes independent linear and non-linear programming to cable, satellite and telcos and claims to be the leading distributor of Spanish language networks in the United States. As a subsidiary, Olympusat Telecom offers turnkey services of broadband solutions and content rich media platforms for entertainment and video-centric clients.
