OTT video software company Vewd will start pre-integrating its smart TV technology and modules with Realtek’s Android TV-based chipsets.
This will include Vewd Core, an HTML5 SDK for connected TV devices, and essential Core modules, including the hybrid TV module, standalone media player and Freeview Play support module.
Vewd said that more than 80% of the world’s Android TV-based smart TVs already ship with Vewd software.
“Vewd and Android TV together give manufacturers a compelling go-to-market proposition,” said Realtek Vice President and Spokesman Yee-Wei Huang in a statement. “By pre-integrating Vewd’s technology with our Android TV chipsets, we give manufacturers a complete turnkey solution to cover their smart TV needs. With HbbTV in Europe, hybrid TV offerings will become critical for smart TVs over the coming years – Vewd ensures we’re ready today with the industry’s most robust solution.”

Last year, Vewd launched Vewd OS for Android TV to help cut down on time-to-market and reduce capex by making an Android TV launch more of a turnkey experience and by offering product modules that adhere to core Android TV requirements. Vewd’s Android TV operator tier promises a “cinematic, video-first” home screen, an OTT application store and an electronic programming guide integrating both live content and metadata from broadcast and OTT platforms. Vewd also offers platform data and analytics through its cloud.
