Discovery+ is keeping busy expanding its distribution footprint and adding promotional offers during the holiday season.
Discovery’s direct-to-consumer streaming service today launched an app on Vizio SmartCast TVs. Users can access the streaming service for $4.99 per month with a seven-day trial before purchasing, or a commercial-free subscription for $6.99 per month.
“We remain committed to offering discovery+ to fans across all platforms and providing them with an unparalleled experience,” said Gabriel Sauerhoff, senior vice president of digital distribution and commercial partnerships at Discovery, Inc., in a statement. “This new partnership with Vizio allows us to expand the reach of all of Discovery's digital properties to even more of our dedicated viewers on SmartCast.”
The new launch adds to Discovery+’s existing device list that includes Android and iOS devices, Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Xfinity Flex, Roku, Xbox and smart TVs from Samsung and LG.

Discovery said it ended the third quarter with 20 million paid streaming subscribers, an increase of 3 million over where the company ended the second quarter. The company attributed the growth in part to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which reached more than 372 million people in Europe across TV and digital platforms and delivered 1.3 billion minutes of Olympics content to its streaming services.
Discovery’s total company revenue rose 23% to $3.15 billion during the quarter but total adjusted OIBDA fell 24% year over year to $726 million.
