Disney+ Day, which arrives this week two years after the subscription streaming service launched, will roll out new pricing promos, content and partnerships.
Starting today through Sunday, November 14, new and eligible returning subscribers (with no current active entitlement) can get one month of Disney+ for $1.99 before it jumps back up to its standard $7.99/month rate.
On November 12, Disney+ will add a significant amount of new titles to its content lineup including recent films like Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Jungle Cruise” along with new Disney+ original film “Home Sweet Home Alone.” The service will also add new specials from Marvel and Pixar.
Disney+ separately announced a partnership with IMAX to add support for the IMAX Enhanced expanded aspect ratio to 13 Marvel films “Iron Man,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Doctor Strange,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” “Captain Marvel,” “Avengers: Endgame” and “
Black Widow.”

“Disney, Marvel Studios, and IMAX have collaborated for years to bring the world’s most popular films to the big screen, and on Friday we’ll start to bring IMAX technology to subscribers with IMAX Enhanced viewing in the Disney+ app,” said Michael Paull, president of Disney+ and ESPN+, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to create new value for Marvel fans and audiences on Disney+, and we’re looking forward to offering even more IMAX Enhanced functionality in the future.”
The company is also introducing some perks like early entrance into Disney theme parks on Nov. 12 for Disney+ subscribers and free shipping for items purchased through ShopDisney. Disney will also host in-store activations at Target on November 12 through November 14 in almost 800 U.S. stores across the U.S. Shoppers will have the ability to sign up for the Disney+ Day offer and receive special giveaways.
The Disney+ Day celebrations are designed to generate new interest in the platform at a time when new subscriber additions may be trailing off. During a Goldman Sachs investor conference in September, Disney CEO Bob Chapek predicted that Disney+ subscribers will increase by “low single-digit millions” during the current earnings period, his company’s fiscal fourth quarter. That compares to the more than 12 million subscribers added during Disney’s fiscal third quarter.
