Disney is using its D23 fan expo to announce lots of details about its upcoming Disney+ streaming video service, which will throw in 4K content and up to 4 simultaneous streams at no extra cost.
The company said that the service will offer 4K Ultra HD video playback with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Dolby Atmos audio on supported devices for available programming. Disney+ will also allow subscribers to concurrently stream video content on up to four registered devices.
These features are all included at the $6.99-per-month price that Disney+ will carry when it launches on Nov. 12. In contrast, Netflix only offers HD content and up to two simultaneous streams with its most popular plan, the Standard tier that charges $12.99 per month. Subscribers have to upgrade to the $15.99-per-month Premium plan to get 4K and up to four simultaneous streams.

The service will also include unlimited downloads for offline viewing of films and series on up to 10 devices and Disney is not putting any limits on the number of times a title can be downloaded per year.
Disney+ will also allow subscribers to set up to seven different profiles and will offer support for English, Spanish, French and Dutch languages. The app also offers support for closed captioning, descriptive audio, and navigation assistance.
The new details about Disney+ come after earlier this month the company announced the device compatibility lineup for the service. At launch, Disney+ will be available on Apple’s iOS and tvOS devices, Google’s Android and Android TV devices, Roku’s players and sticks as well as Roku TVs, Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4. Amazon Fire TV devices are absent from the list.
Disney+ will launch in Canada and the Netherlands at the same time as in the U.S., priced at $8.99CAD per month (or $89.99 per year) and €6.99 per month (or €69.99 per year), respectively. The following week, Disney+ will launch in Australia and New Zealand on November 19, priced at $8.99AUD per month (or $89.99 per year) and $9.99NZD per month (or $99.99 per year), respectively.
In the U.S., Disney+ will be available in a bundle with ESPN+ and Hulu, priced at $12.99 per month.
