LG Channels tees up free horror movies, channels for Halloween

Free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service LG Channels is embracing the Halloween spirit, adding today three horror-themed channels and a Halloween Hub for LG smart TVs.

New channels this month include ALTER, the horror division of Gunpowder & Sky; BlueAnt Media’s Haunt TV; and Cinedigm’s Bloody Disgusting TV.

LG Channels is also offering limited-time free streaming of select horror and thriller movies. Featured titles include “The Invasion,” in which a psychiatrist fights to stop an alien epidemic; “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” which recounts the trial of a priest accused of criminal negligence following the death of a young girl; “The Green Hornet,” a live-action adaptation with the comic book hero, and others.

Viewers can access this Halloween-themed content through LG’s new Halloween Hub, an aggregator of movies and channels geared towards horror and true-crime mystery.

LG Channels is the latest FAST service to serve up Halloween content. Samsung TV Plus earlier this month debuted Halloween Movies, a Samsung-owned FAST channel streaming 24-7 horror movies classics like “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Exorcist.”

For viewers looking for something non-spooky, LG Channels has teed up another selection of free streaming movies. Notable titles (also available for a limited time) include “Are We There Yet?,” “The Social Network,” “Fred Klaus” and “Can’t Hardly Wait.”

LG Channels continues to bolster its content, adding five new FAST channels last month as well as a dedicated NFL channel – featuring programming like classic game broadcasts and league-related news.

LG’s total channel count stands at over 350.

Aside from building up content, LG aims to expand the presence of its streaming technology. The company announced this month it’s rolling out a new version of its webOS streaming platform for third-party partners – including smart TV makers Aiwa, Seiki, Hyundai and Stream System.

Along with access to third-party streaming services, the new webOS plans to offer support for Nvidia’s cloud gaming service.
