Peacock Premium now available for $2 off on DirecTV Stream

NBCUniversal has expanded Peacock’s distribution, with the service last week joining DirecTV Stream’s lineup at a discounted price.

DirecTV Stream customers can now add a Peacock Premium subscription (with ads) to their plan for $2.99 per month – $2 off the regular price of $4.99 per month. They also have the benefit of managing Peacock, along with any other streaming subscription purchased via DirecTV, under a single bill.

“As more DirecTV customers gain interest in, and we add top streaming services from programming partners, including NBCUniversal, we always strive to offer the content our customers want most, using whatever device wherever they are – but also at a strong value they can really appreciate,” stated DirecTV Chief Content Officer Rob Thun. “Giving our customers Peacock at an attractive price helps us to accomplish that goal.”

The Peacock Premium discount will also be offered to DirecTV satellite customers in the coming weeks, according to the pay TV provider. The promotion does not apply to Peacock’s ad-free Premium Plus plan, which costs $9.99 per month. DirecTV customers already subscribed to Peacock Premium or Premium Plus will need to cancel their existing Peacock plan to get the service as a DirecTV add-on.

“As Peacock continues to grow, we hope to help extend our pay-tv partners’ businesses by providing additional value to their customers,” said Matt Bond, chairman of content distribution at NBCUniversal, in a statement.

“This is a great opportunity to bring an additive experience to DirecTV subscribers through Peacock’s line-up of exclusive original and sports programming, straight-from-theaters movies and library content,” he added.

Peacock recently reached another subscriber milestone, with NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell disclosing this month the service now has over 18 million paid users – up from 15 million at the end of Q3.

Shell named the World Cup as one of the main drivers for Peacock engagement, as Peacock is the only U.S.-based streamer to provide Spanish-language coverage of all 64 World Cup matches. The tournament’s inaugural match on November 20 drew 4 million viewers across Peacock as well as NBC’s Telemundo and Telemundo Deportes.

DirecTV Stream has also built up its sports streaming content, introducing earlier this year a personalized hub for users to find live games, keep track of teams and more.
